Blunt Action

During my time freelancing, I worked on numerous projects with Blunt Action. They brought amazing large scale OOH projects & installations, which were challenging and novel to work on.

The first project we connected for was Cartier, which led to Dungeons & Dragons, and then the mammoth Kennedy Space Center entrance video project. I had slightly different roles in each project, which I detail below. I mostly used After Effects and Premiere to animate, edit, and composite. Once I moved to Gupta Media, I couldn't take on any new projects with them, but it was an experience I'll look back on fondly. In between these tentpole projects, I also worked on some organic social for their channel and a editing + compositing a music video for the Disco Biscuits.

ANIMATION + EDITING + COMPOSITING

Blunt Action hired me to handle the final edit and composite for this project as well as some of the key 2D animation. This in-store experience featured a seamless video across four 4k displays inlaid into the walls, installed in the Cartier Flagship NYC store. I united the 3D renders and working 2D animation files into one final cut. This involved a lot of 2D animation for transitions and unfinished elements, cutting and careful retiming to perfect the look and rhythm, as well as taking care of any late breaking asset changes and cleanup. Last but not least, it presented its own technical challenges that come with preparing and rendering a 16k video into four files for simultaneous UHD playback.

EDITING + COMPOSITING

I was brought in to handle the edit and composite for this absolutely bonkers project. A 6 minute looping 3D immersive video in 8k, playing at the entrance to the Kennedy Space Center. I worked with countless image sequences of 3D renders, deep images with many layers, videos, and more to create the final seamless looping cut. This was a behemoth project to edit and composite together, and was a careful dance between all the assets, effects, and composition. The end result is amazing and a sight to behold. This took a lot of my technical prowess to complete, and a lot of creative problem solving and communication with the team creating the 3D assets and renders.

COMPOSITING + MGFX

I worked on this project in the early stages of production, when there was only one of the many deliverables being fine tuned. I established the compositing scheme, and additionally completed lots of compositing fixes on popping artifacts and flickering (it made me nostalgic for my time at Pixar in Rendering). I also adapted the title treatment for the flame transition, animating it into the end of the video. Once the compositing was fine tuned in harmony with the deep image layers they were rendering out, BA was able to apply the composite and title animation to other deliverables that they ran through their final render.
